This series of drawings based on the contours of states began with the image of Iraq. Up to this point I had drawn on places and paths that I had a personal connection to. In trying to create an image with Iraq I traced the contour of the country and then duplicated and rotated it to create a new image. I was then curious to see the outcome of an entire nation in the mandala like form. The digital work of duplicating and rotating each contour was done before the final ink drawing. A personal expression of these images can be seen in the variations of line, weight and value in the ink wash.
